Sometimes it is very important to protect sensitive data. Deleted data can be easily recovered using hard-disk tools. Thank you for sharing some great file shredders available out there.

I used a file-shredder which is in-build within Spybot – Search and Destroy software. It is time-consuming, and unless you have to REALLY remove some data permanently by making it unreadable, you won’t be needing it any time soon…

I reccommend using Shred Agent although I am sure both of them are equally as good. I can put my vote in for Shred Agent.

I don’t have much idea about the software which you have mentioned; it might be a good one. But I have used software called Data Sanitizer which is also a most powerful erasing tool. This Software allows you to completely remove sensitive data from your hard drive or logical drives by overwriting it several times with carefully selected pattern and various international disk sanitization standards. Using this software a complete hard disk and even a logical drive can be erased. It offers maximum number (Totally 9 sanitization standards) of methods for disk erasing.

I have been using the free version of File shredder. But the thing is with this one can shred files which are less than 4MB, in size. More than this size one cant.

Really Interesting post.

This may be an old post but is still very important. Most people think pressing delete actually removes the file. Perhaps you could put a link to this post back on the front page?
