That’s good info. It is important to keep an eye on which processes are running. Both from a memory and a security standpoint.

Wow, I might have to check that process library out, There are always a bunch of them that I have no idea what they are!

props, the first thing I learned about identifying a virus or anything otherwise destruction bound was processes. No, I haven’t learned them all, but I am familiar enough that I can take one quick look and tell if there is more investigation needed. I also learned how to effectively speed up my pc by “turning off” undesired processes. i.e. msmsgs.exe or spoolsv.exe. However in doing so with these two examples you limit your machine and are unable to now properly communicate to other devices on a local network and print. But sometimes you don’t need any of that on a pc, so I researched and killed the processes I didn’t feel were needed. I was able to operate XP Pro, dreamweaver 8, fireworks 8, skype, firefox 2 and Corel PSP12 with very little lag on only 512mb ram. I swear to it ;) But I was very limited on functionality. Its like realizing you can gain extra HP in your auto by simply removing the power steering belt! HAHA< good times.

good post! The process library can be really handy, especially when your computer starts acting like its got mad cow disease.. I was flabbergasted by them processes at first, but now I find it real useful in eliminating suspicious processes ;)

When it comes to strange process I Google search the file name. Usually it shows the potential danger of the file.
(I checked if I have svhost.exe running though) :)

Hey there, I read the blog and it is very useful, I want to know how to get rid of the svchost.exe program (a virus), because there are 4 to 5 svchost.exe programs running and also I have got an alert about the worm. Please help.
