I observed that domain popularity at different search engines for my website is different, it’s different in Yahoo and it’s different in Google. If you remember, Link popularity was the happening thing a while back from all those SEO companies, SEO experts because link popularity was something that used to be the measure criteria for getting a page rank.

What is Domain Popularity?
But as everything good thing comes with lot of bad things, people started link spamming, link farming and link networks. It was getting difficult for Google to decide what is legitimate and what is spam. And they tweaked their algorithm a bit and now they count only one back link from one domain even if the back link is from hundreds of pages from a website. And the term “Domain popularity” became more popular than “Link Popularity”. The site wide linking became fruitless as it became equal to single link.
That’s why you see large difference between Google and Yahoo’s link popularity of your website. While Yahoo shows 57000 link popularity for my website, Google shows up 2000 odd link popularity for this website. So nothing else, but the measure is changed I believe and Google’s 2000 became as important as Yahoo’s 50000.
Where to check your website’s domain popularity?
I use these two tools to check the domain popularity, linkvendor and domain-pop. But I started preferring linkvendor.com for two reasons.
- Link vendor does not have any limit to check the domain popularity of your website while domain-pop allows it only once per 5 days for one domain.
- Domain-pop does not allow “/” special character so you may not be able to check popularity for your website or forum that is available at www.yourdomain.com/forum
Anyways, I check at both the places just to be doubly sure. Normally, having a domain popularity of 5000+ should be fine. Did you check yours, you can post your results here then.
