Since last few days, I am struggling to make a post and I did not give it a thorough thought why it was happening. It’s not that my blogging frequency was not good enough but I think I am not posting very regularly this month. Either I am too busy to even write a post or too tired to even get online. Latter is certainly not a case, because I am checking my emails regularly, checking performance of my stock market investments, working all day on computer online; this finally leads me to the conclusion that I am too busy and need to inquest my ways to spend the time in a day.
Why I need to do this exercise?
I really wish we could have more than 24 hrs of time in hand to work more. But God wanted us to be better in time management I believe. If you are too busy to have free time in hand, even God won’t help you then :). But on a serious note, it’s very important at times to introspect yourself and take a look at what is going on in your life.
So I decided to check out how much time I am spending in various activities of the regular week day. Obviously, I would not go into minute details like brushing my teeth, eating breakfast or something like that but would try to chalk down the major time consuming activities for better time management.
Where I am spending my time?
I am real freak for newspapers for local, national and international news. It was not enough, so I have craze for business news as well separately as I need to keep a watch on what all stocks are performing or under performing and where to invest for short / long term. It’s like I see 3-4 different newspapers in the morning in front of the door, and without newspapers I can’t start my day. Thank god, newspaper publishing companies don’t have many holidays in a year. I spend like 45 to 60 minutes at least reading newspapers.
And then I start working on my black berry, reading official mails and planning for the day. The time slot of 30-60 minutes that could be considered miscellaneous because I do other chores as well, is still almost dedicated to office work. You know what, I just realized that while writing this post. Next question in my mind? Can I use it for something different? Do I need to start working straight away on black berry or I can push that? Is it addiction to check official mails early morning or ownership?
Now, here comes the big chunk of time consuming activity - office!
As I was already talking about it and by now you must have understood that I really really have lot of work to do in office. And I mean that. When I looked at my schedule, I realized that I spend almost 10 hrs in office. I wish I could leave the job and be a full time webmaster but I cannot do that for obvious reasons.
Now the second biggest chunk of time, sleep! Can you believe I used to have a bad habit of staying late nights working on my blogs and websites and get up early to check stats, comments, revenue etc [in short I was a miserable blogger as per the point 10]. I never posted about it, but it could have been interesting post. I cannot say that’s not a situation now, but I am trying to control it. Getting into bed on right time became kind of necessary for me due to some spikes of health problems in between. And this second highest time consumer, Sleep takes 8 hrs out of the 24 hrs in a day.
Some miscellaneous stuff takes out 1 hr of time. So I have three hours remaining in my hand to work. This is the time when I can work on my blogs and websites to publish content and blog posts. Do you think it’s enough? Yes, I think so - if I am completely utilizing this time for posting the content. But it does not happen that way for a webmaster. There are many activities like reading other interesting blogs [I have around 15-20 blogs that I read regularly], commenting on interesting posts out of it, administrating blogs and websites [deleting the spam comments.. haha!], browsing some informational websites other than blogs, checking up stats and revenues, marketing the blog and finally creating good posts as well. It’s not at all feasible to do all these activities in same time slot of 3 hrs, not at all! And, writing a post needs lot of thinking and a motivation to blog as well.
So here is the conclusion, if I want to become regular in posting on all the blogs, I need to save chunks of time from the existing activities [at least 1.5 hrs] and utilize that for thinking process for different niche blogs. I certainly have an idea on how to effectively utilize those chunks of time for blogging purposes, and I would write a detailed post on it soon.
Are you facing similar problem of irregularity in posting, how much time you could save in a day for your webmaster activities?

Wow. Really useful post. I’m struggling with the same problem at the moment. Though it’s true that I’ve made two posts today but that’s a rare exception more or less.
