Lifeiscolourful.com has been rewarded authority status by Google recently. It also means that Google things the content of this website is unique and credible. If I am not wrong, Google has made this change on 26th Jan (I would write how I know the exact date – assume for now that Google told me). Now I see some of the links in my blog listed for easier navigation for search user, check it out below. This post is not to boast about what credibility this blog has with Google now, but to know more about what is this all about.
So what is Google authority status to begin with and how to know if your website has one?
Google authority status in other words talk about the website’s credibility, Google’s trust in the website and the backlinks the website has. Though Google authority is a term given by the webmasters, it’s identifiable when some search results include a set of links below them to pages within the site.
The process of sitelink generation is automated by Google and we have no control over which links to choose in the beginning but Google has given flexibility to webmasters by allowing them to block or unblock sitelinks through webmaster tools. Once your site shows sitelinks, you can login to Google’s webmaster tools, and click on “Links” and then “Sitelinks” to control the sitelinks shown in search results.
That’s where I came to know that Google has added the sitelinks for lifeiscolourful.com on 26th Jan as it was last updated on that date and if I remember correctly, there were no sitelinks before 26th Jan when I checked in past.
Keys to get Google Authority Status
Of course, I am not the authorized one to talk about, but I can certainly state my opinion on key factors to get at this stage with my experience and data available.
In the past, the sitelinks were for websites with more than 10000 pages indexed but Google seems to have reset this threshold as I know I don’t have those many pages indexed. Now, few hundred webpages and few hundred searches everyday is fine too. So simply, you must have searches above Google’s threshold.
Your website should have number of quality dofollow backlinks above Google’s threshold. As you know, Google does not value nofollow backlinks.
Search term or brand term and title tags of the pages that clearly indicates unique content. So have your web pages with clear static title tags instead of any dynamic javascript menus.
Bill Slawski at SEO by the sea has very useful analysis of Google sitelinks based on the patent filed by Google on sitelinks that helped me to understand this very clearly.
Without guessing into the future, I would like to see what it brings this blog in terms of growth. No doubt, this blog has become a flagship project.
