Mine is booked for only a year, partially because I wanted to test the waters…now I have moved it to 1and1 and from what I have found, they only offer 1 year at a time.

I booked mine for two years. I don’t think Google cares very much about it. What bothers me more is the time it took me to find a domain name. It is getting harder and harder to come up with something that is still available. And most of the domain names are just parked.

Hadn’t thought about this at all, going to try and increase it on the domains when I renew them. Thank you for this idea.

I’d like to book mine longer just so I don’t have to fuss with renewing it all the time.

I also hate it when I think of a domain name only to find that it’s already a parked domain!

It might help to buy an existing domain. Some have PR on it already.
There are so many people out there that leave links to sites that do not exist any longer.
One of my sites had quite a couple of backlinks already. Seemed that the domain has been used a few years back and backlinks are still in place.
Not the right anchors though, but all little bits help.

I sometimes wonder the value of some of the “placeholder” pages. I can’t see how they can be all that profitable and think sometimes the domain names get overpriced for what they are providing to the current owner.

Sound advice. I paid for just a year, but I wish I had paid for more years since I had the money to pay for more years at that time. I didn’t just have the knowledge you just shared as at then.

I dont think Google knows how long you booked it for, its a way of providers to get money upfront. We will sell a domain to a client but no one but us really know.

I never knew about SEO before until I studied how to monitor and manage reputations online.

25468. Domain registration pay pal said in November 25th, 2008

I think alot of people do not realize this. Google does think domain names registered for one year mostly are set up for quick traffic or money and not going to be around for a while. I think you should register domain name for as long as you can it does not cost much. 5 years would be the minimum i would register a domain name anything under that seems like a waist of time. The cost is so small and it does help seo rank so you might as well buy a domain name for atleast 5 years if your seriuos about your site.
