Google does think domain names registered for one year mostly are set up for quick traffic or money and not going to be around for a while. I think you should register domain name for as long as you can it does not cost much. 5 years would be the minimum i would register a domain name anything under that seems like a waist of time. The cost is so small and it does help seo rank so you might as well buy a domain name for atleast 5 years if your seriuos about your site. I think alot of people do not realize this.
