Today, Making money online websites are like mushrooms everywhere. Many of them even don’t make enough but they are getting into it saying they know the way and now they would make money. I would prefer to follow those who already have proved that they can make money online and ready to share their views on it in details.
As you might have been reading the posts of earning details every month here that we posted in January [Earning $1407] and February [Earning: $2908] this year, we realized that there is need to share this knowledge with new webmasters. Because very few of them are telling the secret of making money to newbies. I have been reading the comments asked by new webmasters on those earning posts. Some of them just go “aww”, some of them are not impressed much, some of them are ready one a leg to learn all those tricks.
Well, I don’t have many tricks in my hand but whatever I have, I am Persistence in it and religiously following it. I should be honest that I still learn newer techniques of money making by my fellow webmasters and might not know all the techniques. But whatever I know, I would share the secrets with you.
So there might be little confusion in your mind, where to start with your new venture of money making. Believe me, it’s not lottery and you might need to go slow and make some hundred or couple of hundred for first few months but don’t get disappointed because you would see the golden days very soon. Always remember one word, Persistence!
The key to success in making money online is good traffic. We would eventually talk about the ways to generate traffic. But beforehand, let’s start with creating something that would make you money.
Blog or Website?
I would suggest you go for a blog than a website for numerous reasons. Few of them are -
- Advertisers’ attention to this new avenue of advertising.
- Ease of developing it and flexibility in updating it.
- Speedy search engine indexing
Which blog platform to chose?
We have talked about it in past - blogger or wordpress. We haven’t considered other platforms as these two are robust enough for now and the comparison would give you pros and cons of both platforms. The biggest drawback with wordpress is you would need to have your own webhosting space available where as blogger provides it for free.
You don’t have much budget right now, no problem I would not want you to spend a lot at initial stage as well. Do one thing, create a blogger blog and buy a domain name only to point to the newly created blogger blog. This would bring down your capital cost to only around $10 and save around $40-50 on web hosting. You can always later move form blogger to wordpress later as we did the same after using blogger for 2-3 years.
Select Your Blog Niche
This is very important step. You have to be very selective about the blog niche because you would need to achieve two things
- First and most important, you need to have interest in that niche.
- The niche must be popular in advertisers and must be good paying if not high paying. You like stock market investments? Like to write about health related topics? Love to travel and scribble at the same time? Go ahead, and decide your blog nich. These topics will make you good money if you have traffic.
So we are done with figuring out what category of blog to focus on. Remember, you can always create as many blogs as you want at the same time but don’t forget that you need to have that much time to update them regularly. Very few people be successful by not updating blogs regularly due to many reasons like consistent search engine traffic to specific keywords [I have example of such blogs]
When to start monetizing the blog?
Straight away! No way!! The mistake I did, you should not do. Because that’s how we learn - from others mistakes right. I did not lose a lot as such, as I was experimenting back then in 2004 on how to monetize and make money through blogs. But soon I realized that rushing for monetizing would hamper the traffic in a way.
So the blog that you started just now needs to be updated regularly for few weeks. You need to start working on gaining backlinks for this new blog and also submit the blog to various search engines like Google. It’s important to have your blog indexed by major search engines as quick as possible. This article on how to get your website indexed with Google in 24 hrs should help you certainly.
I tell you one more idea. Even if you are not ready with blog posts, get your domain name registered and start building links for this domain before even you start posting. You can always have a temporary page parked on this domain name. I had done this with the blog you reading.
