Well, actually it was pretty handy information and I have been using it since I came across. I believe there are couple of more technical areas that are important for any layman home computer user, and these are probably drivers, ports and PC errors.
When I talk about PC errors codes, these are the same errors you have been seeing in the form of difficult to recognize numbers and character combination. Most of us use Windows operating system and the application running on the OS if stopped due to some exception, an error is thrown on the screen. It’s not only difficult to understand exactly what happened, but eventually difficult to troubleshoot as well. I hate such programs that are developed without keeping the end user in mind. More and more such errors, tell me the quality of programming being produced in product development lately. An ideal way of programming would be handle such errors gracefully and show understandable errors to end users. A handbook of such error codes for the developers is easily available at PC library - even I came to know about it from the discussion with one of the senior developers.
At the same website, you would find out various port directory as well. You must be coming across port numbers like 21, 80 in everyday on computers but finding them all together is one good handful information. Forget whether you are a developer or not, but even general user many times need to know the port numbers for various settings on the computer unless you wanted to call your geek friend or any consultant. UDP & TCP ports are most commonly heard names, specially when you have been using broadband internet connection at home and need to set it up on your own.
I had come across this problem of not knowing specific ports while working on my wireless router, but yes - then I did not know such ready available library as such. But while I talk about my computer issues, the biggest one I face is about the drivers. They really knock me off at last moment, while I try to install any new hardware on my own. The simplest or you can say that the only thing that i thought was feasible for me was to read the error, not understand the head nor the tail of what was written, then open google, search for that error and then get redirected to a forum that had that very error discussed in detail and then try that on my own. See, it was so simple for me.;)
But, mind you these errors are so complicated to understand. They are written in MS codes and understanding them is a daunting task.
