It’s again one more waiting year for the people who could not get H1-B last year due to lottery system or random selection process of USCIS [U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services]. Last year in 2007, due to huge number of H1-B petitions, USCIS had to randomly select the applications to allow them to enter into the States after 1st October 2008.
USCIS announced recently that it has received enough H1-B petitions to meet the congressionally mandated cap of 65,000 for fiscal year 2009 , also received more than 20,000 H-1B petitions filed on behalf of persons exempt from the cap under the advanced degree exemption.
Before running the random selection process, USCIS will complete initial data entry for all filings received during the filing period ending on April 7, 2008. Due to the high number of petitions, USCIS is not yet able to announce the precise day on which it will conduct the random selection process.
This year USCIS had already decided that if the number of applications crosses 65000 in first five working days, they would select the application through random selection process.
