At the very first glance, what impresses you - the blog design, correct? And it’s human nature that we first give attention to look and feel of anything and than the core content. The thing that impressed me at this blog is simplicity in the design, I am not sure whether it’s customized design or any available free design but certainly it looks like it’s customized by the blogger himself as his top level domain points to a custom web design services website. It looks like a blog that could help growing his business, and that might be the reason Gombos did not monetize the blog at all. In a way, he would lose lot of money lying on the tables if he does not monetize his blog once it becomes a popular blog.
When I decided to look at the first ever post of this blog, I was little fumbled. There was only one way for me to go back in the past, and that was “Old posts” link at bottom of page. It was a little absurd, but this blog does not have Archives or Recent posts which is little unlikely not to have for any blog. So the author should certainly give a serious thought to add these features to make the navigation easier for readers. Of course he has links to his posts but those appear randomly or only featured ones. There is one more important point about Archives and Recent posts, that helps in internal link building and let search engines know how to index more and more pages from the blog.
Finally I reached to the first ever post, and I realized that this blog has started this year. Still Gombos has achieved to have 50-60 odd posts in this short period and did a commendable job in being regular in posting. Remember, to get a loyal readership - you should be always regular in your postings or at least set expectations of your readers that you would post at certain intervals.
Even though there are many posts, I would have been happy to see the posts distributed more or less equally in each category or section as he has these sections prominently displayed at the top of the blog. I give benefit of doubt to him at this moment, considering it’s pretty new blog and has enough time to develop this blog.
While talking about posts, there are couple of very interesting posts to talk about. I observed that this post on user account control behavior has a damn good information on user accounts in Windows XP and Windows Vista, and it’s not only I say - but the 95 trackback links prove it as well. Another post on spyware community that talks about Windows defender tool suggesting membership in the SpyNet community during setup time. I seriously did not understand why this post must have been so popular but later realized the secret :-). I leave it to you to find it out.
As I myself liked to browse this design blog with different flavors, and I should be regular to this blog if he continues to post regularly but before that I would suggest one more thing to Gombos; to fix up or modify the sections or categories as more or less they look same to me. Overall, I would rate this blog as better quality blog specially for technical people and also non techies to see some information available in simple words.
