I am pretty sure that you like to read such articles that give you ideas to increase backlinks for your new blog, specially few out of the way methods. My crazy mind sometimes think kind of out of box and try to see how you can take best benefit of the social bookmarking websites. Not necessarily everyone would agree to what I suggest here, but I don’t see any reason not to go for it.

Keep in mind, any quality dofollow link is good backlink for your blog – so don’t ever think that the page PR is high or low to begin with. Technorati.com is a PR8 website and dofollow backlink from any pages on this website would be a good credit in Google’s eyes.

First and foremost thing is you should register your blog with Technorati, and your blog page would be your first dofollow backlink. And there is your dofollow link, did not I assure one from Technorati?? What else you are looking for.. ha! I am kidding… actually there is more to come.

Easiest way to get dofollow backlinks from top Technorati pages

1. Technorati.com has a list of Top 100 blogs which comprises of highest authority and eventually high PR popular blogs like Huffinton post, Engadget, Official Google Blog, Gizmodo, BoingBoing

2. Each of these blogs have their own Technorati profile page which is at least PR6

3. Scroll down on this page for “blog reactions”, each blog linking to these top notch blogs must appear on this list. Remember when you link to these blogs, your blog post link appear would appear in this list as well.

4. You get a temporary PR6 backlink but more important is your blog get a permanent dofollow backlink from Technorati’s pages other than your own profile page.

What’s my logic behind considering this as good dofollow backlinking method:

The actual pages your blog link is on might not be high PR page, but remember that page itself is linked by high PR pages of Technorati, so it still matters considering the rule of Quality neighborhood.

While I was analysing my Google webmaster tool, I have observed that some of my blog posts have got many dofollow backlinks from various pages of Technorati and these are counted as dofollow backlinks for those post pages. This link analysis is done using Yoast’s SEO link analysis tool in Google webmaster tool. Follow this path in your webmaster tool login to find it out: Google Webmaster tool -> Links -> Pages with external links -> Click on the number in column “External links”.

Such backlinking does not link only to your homepage, but you get backlinks for your inner pages helping to get PR for inner pages too which eventually helps to increase your overall internal pages PR as you see on this blog.

If you are too bothered about (dofollow) linking to top blogs (you will be linking to some good blogs, so don’t worry) just to appear in their dofollow reactions list, you are not forced to give them dofollow backlink, did I say that? Technorati shall add your blog in the list no matter what kind of link it is. Though, it’s good to give dofollow but if you don’t want – don’t do it and enjoy one way backlinking.

I got a private message on a webmaster forum today asking for link exchange with a PR6 website with any PR4+ link exchange in return. You might be getting such requests through various means, so I would better bring this to your notice as well.

First of all, this request sounds fishy if someone is asking for such link exchange where they are expecting something lower than their level. Mostly, such people if ever ask for low PR websites, they ask for three way link exchange with backlink pointing to one of their other websites.

How would you find out whether the site is legitimate?

1. Check the backlinks of this website, there should be considerable number of backlinks to reach to such high PR. If it’s lower PR you get request from, be sure that there should be some number of quality backlinks before you decide to say yes.

2. Go to websites like digpagerank.com and just add this website in there to check the real Pagerank. If it’s good PR, it will be shown in Green, and if it’s fake PR, it will be in Red. For non-confirmed PR, it will show it in Orange, avoid linking to such PRs.

As simple as that! Short article but useful info to keep in mind!

I just realized that I missed the Link Love to my top commentators lately. It’s very important that you look after your regular readers and commentators through various means. Updating your blog with relevant information time to time is one default way, but to increase the popularity of your blog by passing on the link love to your readers is one popular proven way in recent months.

As I had mentioned in one of my past link love post that I would review the comments before I declare the list of legitimate top commentators. The reason behind that was the regular readers were overshadowed by once in the blue moon commentators who just come for 1-2 days and add a dozen comments but never come back. Do you agree with my decision to pass on link love to regular commentators only. At least this does not push me in a fix.

In the month of September,  Jonathan and Paul together stood at No. 1 in top commentator list. Jonathan runs a website on promotional products, custom t-shirts and is new reader of this blog. Paul has been around for a while, who promotes his real estate and new homes website. By the way did you see that Paul came up with a nice new design for this website, good one Paul!

Barroc is also one new reader of this blog who runs a general blog, seems like he just started with his blog in Sept 08 and there are lot of things to improve in there. Hey dude, wish you all the best.

My new Japanese reader, Kouji has haiku blog that would be interesting to visit as the blogger is planning to post one haiku poem every day.  I read about haiku poems long back in my school time, after that this is the first time I am coming across, nice memories!

There are two members on the last rank of top 5 commentators, and Jarod is a new reader again. I would hold myself linking back to him this time, until I am sure he is not just trying to promote his website. Tara still stands right next to Jarod. Tara has been around for a while who has been running her mp3 website.

In the month of August,  Patric from cruisevacationchoice. com topped the list but he did not seem to be regular visitor, probably he was in rush to promote couple of his websites and tried to comment in dozens with two different websites within 3-4 days. Sorry Patric but IMHO, you are not eligible for a dofollow link back.

Albachtimi offers blogging resources and tips that would be useful to the newbie webmasters or even oldies. Knowledge is always good, from wherever it comes.

Life is Colourful seems to have a cousine blog, Life is Bright! I am just kidding about being my cousin blog, due to the blog name. It’s a new blog that would probably like to talk about bright life, I could not open the blog for a while and left trying.

Tara was again in the list of top commentators in the month of August also. Damn, Tara I just observed that you have topped the list more than two times in the past. Good going! Are you planning to top the yearly list of top commentators also? By the way, you site design looks decent.

I have been one odd viral trains in past. No doubt, my blog was benefited with the backlinks and my technorati authority shot up to levels of 50000 from nowhere that time but that was only compilation of some website links. Technorati Authority is comprised of the total number of unique links to your blog in the last 6 months. Though stats of your blogs improve, the content goes down. I found a nice mid way though. This will not only get your backlinks and improve your technorati authority but also give you some of the best articles to visit around the blogosphere.

Unfortunately it’s not statistics! So it’s very difficult to implement that complex statistical formula and rank a “link”. Why would you need to get into this funny business of evaluating a link though? Did you do it ever while you used to just browse the net, email your friends, chat with them and send across some greetings – nope!

But the moment you entered into blogging or became webmaster, you came to know what value “link” has. How important it is to get a quality textlink for your blog or website. It’s good to gather thousands of them but the question is if they would really help your website. It’s important to have links across the web linking back to your website. Here text link quality takes priority over quantity. But if it’s not statistics, how would you measure quality of text link? Though it’s not possible to get a number for the quality of text link, you can still evaluate them on few parameters.

What are the parameters to evaluate text links?

First of all, find out since when the website or blog exists which is providing you a text link. You should prefer older domains here. [Don't run behind young ones here at least ]

Next parameter is like digging out someone’s history and reputation. You should find out who all are in this website’s neighborhood. How many unique domains are linking to this website where you would have your text link. This should be sufficient – you need not go into neighborhood details of the neighborhood websites. If the website that you are getting link from, has it’s link on .edu or .gov websites – you are good to go.

Next you shall check how many external indexable links [read Dofollow links] this page has. Lower number of outgoing links on the page, better to have text link on such pages. I have avoided offers of 3-way link exchange only because of this factor so many times.

Theme of the website that is linking to you: If it’s close to what niche your website is in, it’s better. But I personally think this factor should not matter much as long as the linking website is clean website. If my finance blog get a link from very high quality automobile blog, should not it help. It helps, but not same as getting link from a very high quality finance blog.

Now is it important to have link back from many pages [site wide]? Well, the answer is – it does not hurt. Most of the juice you receive from 10-15 quality pages is almost the maximum value out of all the site wide pages. Having site wide links on 100s of pages, should not hurt though.

Finally, how powerful the link is? Many years back, people could not find the power of the links so concept of page rank came into existence and now it’s widely used to decide the power of links vaguely. Remember, not all high page rank links are powerful to give a boost. You should always consider all the points being discussed here while deciding the power of the link.
