Always verify the security certificate issued to a site before submitting any personal information. Before you submit any personal information, ensure that you are indeed on the Web site you intend to be on.

I’m confused. You mentioned “good pr” and “bad pr.” How does the site have a fake high page rank? I understand they’re tricking you but I don’t follow how they mislead their pagerank.

27204. webkinz said in February 1st, 2009

Hm. I wonder, how people fake it?

27207. Life is Colourful said in February 1st, 2009

You can easily fake the PR by redirecting (not forwarding) a domain to an existing domain with some PR (say PR5). After few days, the new domain will get PR5 but it will actually get it due to the redirection and not because of backlinks. Such PR will be fake PR.

The best way to check PR authority is to check the website and then check google cache (cache:URL in Google search box ). If the site is the same as the cache you have valid PR.

I’m an active DP members and has seen a lot of link offers at extremely cheap prices even though the PR is up to 6. There must be something wrong with it, I think, but couldn’t find any clue.

27362. Myers Briggs Test said in February 5th, 2009

Yeah, PR can be easy to “fake” although it still takes a good amount of time for Google’s PR bar/status to update…seems like it updates about twice a year these days. It used to be more often though.

27366. webkinz said in February 5th, 2009

People will try to scam you on everything these days. It’d be nice to create some kind of database of those kind of websites – it’d make people think twice before trying to lie to other webmasters.

29589. Paul Scott said in April 5th, 2009

Does anyone know how they manage to fake the PR?

29650. Make Money Online said in April 9th, 2009

Everytime someone is requesting for link exchange, first thing I’ll check their Pagerank in some PR checker site. After confirm their pagerank, if the site is higher than me and have similar niche, link exchange will go on.
Anyway, good tips dude! :)

Lee

Checking the backlink profile of a potential link partner is the most effective way to identify if the site is a spammer. Use Yahoo site explorer or linkdiagnosis to do this effectively.

Don’t focus too much on PR when gathering links. Just get links from solid sites offering them. PR should be an aforethought.

Google should remove the public PR listings – it causes alot of problems

Unfortunately there are sooo many people out there who are totally unscrupulous in their online dealings. Even if the main page of the website has a high PR, the internal page you will be linked from might have a poor PR, so be aware of that too!
