I Follow - Life is Colourful Yes, I joined this few days back and made my blog “DoFollow”. So what are you waiting for guys, go on commenting and once your comments reach to 2 in count [I tell you why - read below], you start getting link love from my blog.

Since long I wanted to join the DoFollow community driven by many considerate bloggers and finally got a chance to that once I moved from blogger to wordpress. It’s pretty much easy in Wordpress to implement this than blogger.

I chose the granddaddy of all the DoFollow plugins which is availbable at semiologic- You just switch it on and it works, all nofollows are removed from comments and trackbacks easily.

But wait, there is something more to add here. There is this interesting plugin by Andrew Timberlake. This is a brand new plugin that removes nofollow after a certain number of comments have been made. This is developed specially to reward regular commenter. Andy mentions that [Now don't ask me who is Andy if you are a "DoFollower"] - One thing I like is that the detection is based upon email address and not domain or URL, so it allows a commenter to spread the links the way they like. This discourages scrapper sites from sending you spammy trackbacks but rewards real bloggers for linking you.

In the default settings of this plugin, it will remove the rel=”nofollow” attribute from comments where the commenter has commented 10 (configurable) or more times. When you install the plugin, just check for “allpassion_comment_count” variable in the plugin code to change the number of comments after which you want to consider the links for Link Love.

It’s pretty easy to implement any of these plugins using WordPress. Just follow the steps mentioned in relevant DoFollow plugin pages and you are there IN the DoFollow community.

Its a nice concept, but it also leads to increased ’spam’ with comments like ‘Good Job’ or ‘Nice blog’ that are not actually relevant to the post, but are just there because the poster saw a ‘DoFollow’ badge on the blog and wanted a backlink.

I suppose you could call this a double edged sword, it’d definitely get your more comments, but also increase your moderation work.

Yup. Dofollow blogs tend to be commented more frequently. People like to be rewarded for their comments with free backlinks
The same goes for forums. Just look at the DP. It’s huge. There are more reasons for that but one is also that it’s dofollow. People are encouraged to post cause they are getting strong backlinks from very pupular site

@ Johnl, no there are more than one reasons to switch from blogger to wordpress and it’s not only the “DOFOLLOW” reason. Blogger can also be made DOFOLLOW, it’s just that it does not support plugins so it’s not that easy and convenient with blogger compared to wordpress.

Good for you to add do follow. This is how i found the blog. I started out reading about the different results by using do or no follow. Came to the dofollowblogs directory. And somehow ended up here.
I’m so pro- do follow. Even added the button to the site. I can understand the use of no follow when it is advertizing, or when you are discussing bad sites. But otherwise not. The internet will be so much better if everyone just focuses on building a good site with genuine content and links.

I think dofollow blogs are very important in terms of traffic as well. It brings the targeted visitors but have to lots of work avoiding spammers as well.

Do follows can be a double edge sword. Most of the time it brings an influx of traffic of honest people wanting to read your blog and comment to get some link love. Other times, you might find that you get lots and lots of spam comments. I guess there are trade offs in everything in life.

Does DoFollow really help when it comes to getting linkbacks and does Google count them? I think it will be a case of Google writing an algorithm to discount dofollow links so is there any point?

Recently installed the wordpress dofollow plugin on my blog (www.pfisterfarm.com). Getting more traffic now, which was desparately needed. Comment spam is about the same, before and after. Comments are moderated, so it’s pretty easy to deal with at this point.
